Komodo Island Indonesia, the giant dragons native habitats

A beautiful island with the largest dragons in the world. Pulau Komodo. Komodo Island is an island which located in the Nusa Tenggara islands, Indonesia. Komodo Island is known as a native habitat of the dragons animals. The island is a part of the Komodo National Park area which is managed by the Indonesia Central Government. Komodo Island is located in the east of Sumbawa Island which separated by the Sape Strait.


Administratively, the island including in the District of Komodo, West Manggarai regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, Indonesia. Komodo Island is the westernmost province of Nusa Tenggara Timur, bordering the Nusa Tenggara Barat province.

On the Komodo island, the dragons animals live and breed well. Until August 2009, on the island there are about 1,300 dragons animals. Coupled with other islands, such as Rinca Island and Gili Motang, their numbers totaled about 2500 dragons. There are also approximately 100 individuals of dragons in Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland of Flores island, but this is not including the Komodo National Park.

Besides Komodo dragons, this island also store a variety of exotic flora, like Sepang wood that used as medicine and dye clothes by the local peoples, this nitak tree or sterculia oblongata in the believe is useful as medicines and seeds are tasty and delicious like peas.

Komodo Island is also accepted by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, due located in the Komodo National Park along with the Rinca  Island, Padar and Gili Mota.


The history of Pulau Komodo
In 1910 the Dutch named the island on the south side of East Nusa Tenggara Province is the nickname "Pulau Komodo" (Komodo Island). This story begins with Lieutenant Steyn van Hens Broek who tries to prove statements about a reporting of Dutch troops where they has been look the large animal resembling a dragon on the island. Then Steyn killed a dragon and bring for documentation to the Museum and Botanical Garden in Bogor to be investigated.

In 2009, the Park has been selected as a finalist "New Seven Wonders of Nature" newly published in 2010 by voting online at www.N7W.com. On 11 November 2011, the New 7 Wonders has announced the provisional winners, and the Komodo National Park came into the ranks of the winners, together with the Amazon Rainforest, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Puerto Princesa Underground River, and Table Mountain. The result, Komodo National Park is getting the most votes. Komodo Island is an heritage island for the people of the world.
