The Amazing Lake in Indonesia Rainforest, Danau Tempe

A beautiful face on the earth planet. Danau Tempe. Tempe Lake is a natural wonder in Indonesia. There are the ancient lake that formed from the cracking of the earth since thousands or even millions of years ago. If you can visit the Tempe lake, you are among those who are lucky. Why? Because you have been visit a special place on earth. Tempe lake located just above Australia-Asia continental plates and set foot on two continents at once. This is amazing. That's what makes the Tempe lake to as the World's Pride.


Why called Tempe lake? It is still a secret that can not be disclosed through history. Surely naming the lake is nothing to do with tempeh, foods made from soyabean, where many people mention that Tempe lake comes from the word of Tempeh food.

But what's in a name. Anything no problem. For the people and the government, the necessary of the largest fish producer lake in the world is in order to popularize the foreign tourists so that flock here.

Since time immemorial, the Tempe lake does have freshwater fish species that are not found elsewhere. At the bottom of the lake is the source of fish food, which is estimated made by the location where between two continental plates.

Since long time ago the lake has become one of the major suppliers of freshwater fish for the South Sulawesi province, even to the island of Java. In addition to a number of freshwater fish are abundant, the Tempe lake is also unique because the community makes floating houses in the middle of the lake.


The Tempe lake communities such as can not be separated from the life aquatic ecosystems. The forest in upstream lake shrinking causing the water flow down drastically. Vast lake that was originally about 35,000 acres, is now only about 30,000 hectares, even in the dry season shrunk to only 10,000 hectares.

Even so there are still many people who depend on the fish and farms around the lake, as did the previous generation. The trip down the Walennae river in the town of Sengkang towards the Tempe lake totally engrossing. We can see the activity on the houseboat like people that live on land.

Enchantment Lakes Tempe become a mainstay tourist Sulawesi, Indonesia. Natural scenery in the Lake Tempe maintained its authenticity, as yet untouched by modernization. The lake is worthy to be sold in Asia, because the atmosphere are still natural.

Such sights these very attract many of the tourists from abroad. May be the Tempe lake is not the market share for domestic tourists, because the scenery as it is considered unusual there.


Tempe lake has an important role for the Environment. In addition to the fish resources, the surrounding forest becomes a habitat for various species of birds. Some migratory birds crossing between continents and stop at Lake Tempe in certain seasons.

Some bird species included in Appendix I and II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), a convention on international trade of endangered animals.

On the Tempe lake, looked hundreds of floating fishermen's houses which decorated with colorful flags. From the top of the floating house, tourists can watch the sunrise and sunset in the same position, and to see a variety of birds, flowers, and grass floating on the water surface.

In the evening time, visitors can witness the beauty of the moon illuminating the Tempe lake while fishing. If you are trying to visit the Tempe lake in Indonesia, you definitely do not want to go home. Because really amazing.
